Hamline University is a coeducational, private university located in Saint Paul, the capital and second-most populous city of the U.S. state of Minnesota, also serving as the county seat of Ramsey County, having a population estimated at a number of over 287 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.
Hamline was established in 1854 and is the oldest established university in the state of Minnesota. It was named in honor of Bishop Leonidas Lent Hamline, who was also a lawyer.
